The Norristown Preservation Society was founded in 1984 to preserve and restore the Historic Selma Mansion at 1301 West Airy Street in Norristown. Within two years, we had expanded our mission to "preserve, promote and protect the borough's and greater Norristown's rich history, cultural and architectural heritage, and to provide a venue for the education and understanding of that legacy."That legacy includes the former residents of Selma: General Andrew Porter, Governor David Rittenhouse Porter, Secretary of War James Madison Porter and the Porter family; the Andrew Knox family, son Thomas P. Knox, Pennsylvania State Agricultual Society president, his wife Sarah Leedom Knox and their family; Joseph Fornance, Historical Society of Montgomery County president, his wife Ellen Knox Fornance and their family; Major Joseph Knox Fornance, Montgomery County Bar president, and Mrs. Ruth Ryder Fornance.
